Writing 3: July 4th

Rather than give you lots of new things to do, let's make today a day of consolidation. We only have 2 more classes before the end of the semester, so it's time to look back over the semester and see what's missing. Here's a kind of checklist.

1. Ideally you should have read an easy English book and written a short report every week. But have you written at least 5 book reports?


2. Have you written at least 3-5 vocabulary-related posts? Do they include example sentences? Have you learnt the words you included in the posts?


3. Do you regularly link to other pages on the internet, other students' blog posts, blog comments, your own earlier posts? Can you do this by writing the HTML yourself if necessary?


4. Have you included several posts with photos or other images? Can you do this easily?


5. How many total posts have you written? Considering the semester as being 12 weeks long, you should have at least 36 posts before the exam period. (1-2 posts in class, 1-2 posts for homework). This doesn't include empty posts or duplicate posts.


6. How many words have you written? Since quantity is the main theme of the semester, I think 5000 words is a modest target. Try copying all your posts into Word and using the word count feature.


7. Did you write something about Kumamoto (or another area) on your blog? Is there a page on Wiki Travel that is mainly your creation and that you can be proud of? Did you adapt the style appropriately to the blog and the global Wiki Travel database?

Note that there will be a test on July 25th. This is to give students who have failed the blogging part of the course a chance to gain points elsewhere. I want to give you a chance to write what you want to write, showing your progress in writing quickly, so let's decide the questions together today.
